Best Coast shares a Dreamy California

Best Coast did a mix for Artist Advocacy. I don’t know anything about all that, but it’s a california-cool-nostalgia-laden-for-an-imaginary-(at least for me)-image-of-so-cal-cruisy-mix. I want to collect all the tracks, make a CD, and then drive in my car along the coast up to Berkeley. I think these acts, Best Coast and her other fuzzy friends like Wavves, that appeal to the hip-Pitchfork-crowd, are really interesting because they are creating a sardonic nostalgia for the West coast (the best coast), and I have a feeling that it’s tinged with sincerity, and not the other way around. But I’m cursed with a certain detachment. Like if I tried to be in on it, it would just look like I’m not in on the joke. But maybe I’m thinking too much about those things, as I am liable to do. I just need to RELAX.

Anyway, it’s a really cool mix of songs that evoke, in the words of Bethany Costentino herself, the mood of “my boyfriend, driving around in my car, and sitting around at home with my cat. Hope you listen to it and chill as hard as I do.” Damn, it’s like when I hit that bomb-yesk and we’re watching something on TV and my friend Gretel has to remind me to laugh.
