I’ve been listening to Lykke Li for a while, ever since I discovered the freaky deaky music video to “I’m Good, I’m Gone”. She’s so charming! Her voice seems so innocent and unusual, it’s appealing because it seems a bit restrained and honest…and she’s like, super Scandinavian! The subject matter of her songs is a bit unexpected too, a nice surprise if you listen carefully. It’s good pop music!
Anyhoo, I’m revisiting some of her work: two different songs remixed by Drake (from Degrassi! dude, woah! let us never forget) and by Buraka Som Sistema. These songs are actually from a little while back–I remember listening to the “Dance Dance Dance” remix earlier this year, and apparently Drake came out with his remix of “Little Bit” last year. So, I guess that makes me late to the party again! Oh well!
Also, Lykke Li appears on the “New Moon” soundtrack! You know, the unavoidable/inevitable sequel to Twilight! Okay, so at first, this was surprising to me. And then I heard the song–it’s so sweet! Like her other work, it’s restrained, but it’s pained. Almost gospel like! It totally fits into the melodrama of Twilight, but I think it actually lends some legitimacy to the romance–I can picture this song on the Romeo+Juliet soundtrack with Leonardo and Claire Danes, back in the day! Love it! I’m not posting it for download, but I guess I can show a video of it.
