Disco Edit: Happy Halloween

This is the “Disco Edit” of the Silver Shamrock Happy Halloween commercial from Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

Here is the scene from the movie:

Swim, Caribou

Just posting some cool music I downloaded on a whim. I love it when that happens: When I throw 10 bucks down on itunes and I come out with a cool album of songs. Thanks, Pitchfork! Almost seems like happenstance/I actually have good taste in music.

It’s like, some kind of avant garde house music that will throb your brain sometimes. I first listened to this while I was slowly developing a hangover, falling asleep after a night of Vegas drinking. I find myself constantly going back to listen to it over the weeks, though. Bowls especially, needs to be bumped with some loud bass as it counters with some harpy harps and clangy clanging bells. Somewhere in there, there’s a house party. And Found Out is a deconstructed, softly mutated disco diva’s ballad sung by a croony white dude with remorseful pains about being found out about some affair or another. Or at least that’s the story I imagine, I didn’t really listen to the lyrics. It’s soooo Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way”. And I mean that in the best way.

Young Hearts! Run Free!

True story: I played Romeo in my high school’s production of Romeo and Juliet

Truer story: It was a 5 minute version of Romeo and Juliet, but it still counts!

New Italo-Disco!!!: Hard Ton

“Earthquake”, for all of those earthquakes in the world happening lately! This is totally happening right now. Also, I’m totally a geologist, officially. So that’s happening right now, too.

Enjoy Hard Ton. I don’t know much about this nu-disco movement happening lately, but apparently this guy fits in. All I know is I never stopped loving disco. I was raised on it, as you might guess from reading this blog. First time watching, I was all, Divine is back from the dead!!!!! Instead, she gave birth from beyond the grave.

This is party.

“I Feel Love” by RHCP

On my “Super Top 10 Favorite Songs of All Time” List, the song that expresses my collective love for disco, Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, and other such excesses is the mega-futuristic “I Feel Love”. I can write for days about it honestly, and that day will eventually come–so stay posted! I have a discovery story that involves 4-year-old me, a swimming pool, and endless love.

But for now, this is a funky and all-too-short live cover of “I Feel Love” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Jee-yuh!

Babe, We’re Gonna Love Tonight–Lime

02-LIME-2

I had this song on a mix tape. You know, the old school ones that don’t exist anymore! It belonged to my aunt who recorded her disco songs from the old Power 106 mixes of yore. I remember laying on her bed with my cousins while she got ready, playing the radio all day long, waiting for that ONE song to come on. She would always record the commercials too, and I would get SOO ANNOYED, because I would forget that I was listening to a tape, and I’d go to change the dial. I remember when she’d pick me up from Catechism class on Tuesday nights, this tape would always be playing! I don’t remember every song that was on the mixtape, but I definitely remember this one. The Fugees “Killing Me Softly” was on it, Lisa Lisa, “My Forbidden Lover”, “Spin It”.

Babe We\’re Gonna Love Tonight is my favorite though, because it’s so ridiculously over the top, but not in a cheesy way. It’s a declaration and promise of love! The synths are addictive and energetic! This is what LOVE is going be like when I grow up, I thought. I’m still waiting, though! A party seriously isn’t a party unless they play some disco. And not that ooh la la ’70s disco-Bee Gees-Donna Summer-Do The Hustle-shit! I definitely prefer this kind of disco.
