There’s not much I know about Charlotte Gainsbourg. Up until I discovered this song, and watched the trailer for “Antichrist” on the same day, I didn’t realize that the singer and the actor were in fact the same person! The same kind of creepy and hypnotizing feeling I get while watching the trailer is a similar feeling that is evoked by the song. The vocals are immediately paranoid and unsettling, but it makes sense with the drums that remind me of the beat in Toni Basil’s cover of Love’s “Little Red Book”. It’s fun, but it’s scary because she takes it so seriously!
I’m making up a really cheesy music video in my mind that consists of Toni Basil’s choreography, set in the wilderness that appears in ”Antichrist”. There’s weird imagery and heavy make-up, a la an early 80′s music video. I see a Waiting room, IRM is MRI backwards! There’s a scary fox! Charlotte Gainsbourg has monkey back-up dancers.
What else can I say about Charlotte Gainsbourg… Her voice appears in that Madonna video for “What It Feels Like for a Girl”. Effin’ love that song! Also, my cousin told me to “change that shit” when I played it for her.
